As daunting as the idea of travelling alone may be – everyone should experience it at least once in their lives. You might think that you’d never have the confidence to set off out into the world alone, but once you’ve taken that first step, you’ll realise how much you control your own destiny.
On the 26th November 2016, I boarded a flight at Manchester Airport. On the 27th November, I landed in Seoul, South Korea. Today marks one year of travel and what a year of travel it has been! One year on and I am at home again. Not to stay but on a visit and to drop off my Camping Car after a summer in Europe before heading once again on a long haul flight.
I was asked by my sister-in-law if I ever got homesick. Well what you are going to read about my year of travel will make you understand why I don’t. With people all over the world welcoming me into their lives and making their house my home. How can I?
Imagine a place full of homes cut out of the rocks. A place where people still live in caves. It sounds like I have gone back to the time of cavemen! But here I am in Cappadocia in the highlands of Turkey where some of the nicest hotels are within a cave. This is just one of many things on the list of what to do in Cappadocia, Turkey.

I was travelling with my best friend through central Turkey when we reached the little village of Göreme in Cappadocia. We were travelling with a tour group and our tour leader explained the itinerary for the next days to us. As soon as he mentioned: sun set balloon ride in Cappadocia, our eyes locked. We didn’t need to consult each other. There was no need to think about the costs.
If ever you want to take a balloon ride somewhere, it has to be in Cappadocia, Turkey.
As I walked along the well worn trail through the valley, my eyes couldn’t help but look around in amazement at all the doorways cut into the rock. Abandoned homes and chapels that once was full of life. I’m hiking the Red and Rose Valley in Cappadocia.
I love exploring new places, climbing into empty spaces, not knowing what amazing things you will find inside. This hike is perfect for this. Exploring the caves and discovering amazing views out over the valley from small windows carved into the rock. Each home is a reminder of this ancient and mysterious time.
