GPD is currently seeking an Architectural Designer for our Akron office location to support the Federal practice.

The Ideal Candidate Will Possess

  • Architectural Designer or Registered Architect with 5-10 years of experience in a lead architectural role on projects throughout all phases of the project. Bachelor’s degree in architecture; Master’s in architecture preferred.
  • Strong technically with the ability to lead the architectural and engineering design and documentation. Experienced in programming, working through creative solutions with the client, schematic design, design development, developing construction documents and specifications, and supporting projects through construction administration.
  • Experience in government projects preferred but not required.
  • Familiar with Design Build in addition to other project delivery methods.
  • Revit/BIM experience required.
  • Experienced and comfortable working directly with the client providing timely updates on project status, discussing project scope, etc. Demonstrates a customer service focus.
  • Familiar with code requirements and construction of building methods and materials.
  • Ability to work within a team environment working with individuals from various offices and in various disciplines.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills, professional writing skills and the ability to multi-task between several projects and priorities at one time.
  • Candidate should also be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Some travel may be required.
  • Valid Driver’s License is required.

Responsibilities Will Include

  • Architectural design process, documentation and construction administration for various project types. Responsibilities as the lead architect role include code research, programming, client interfacing, design, documentation, specifications, and construction administration including field visits to projects.
  • Assist in mentoring staff on processes and technical details of the projects.
  • Researching and understanding required agency approvals required for the project.
  • Supporting the Project Manager with client meetings and correspondence. Leading meetings may be required.
  • Researching design solutions and industry best practices.
  • Interfacing and coordinating with all disciplines of design including our in-house engineers, designers, renderers as well as outside consultants.
  • Coordinating other field services such as land and building surveys, environmental studies, and geotechnical studies.
  • Leading a team to complete building assessments and building surveys.
