Job Description

ROLE SUMMARY: As an Editorial Production Assistant at BJU Press, the ideal candidate will play a supporting role on the Editorial team by embracing the mission of producing K¬–12 educational materials with a biblical worldview for Christian schools and homeschools. You assist the editors by reading PDF page proofs of BJU Press products and marking errors and inconsistencies for the editors to review. Your work increases the value of the products by ensuring their conformity to BJU Press style and departmental guidelines and lowers production costs through efficiency and attentiveness. You may be asked to assist with other editorial tasks as needed. After successful onboarding, a regular part-time employee in this position may apply for a hybrid work schedule. This is not a remote position.

About the Team: The Editorial team seeks to support the mission of BJU Press by (1) ensuring that all materials best support customers by being clear, accurate, and in alignment with the product team’s stated goals; (2) meeting the needs of internal and external customers while demonstrating excellence/quality; and (3) producing these products through a lean, effective process.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Proofread BJU Press products
  • Learn and review the Chicago Manual of Style, BJU Press style, policies, and procedures to improve proofreading skills
  • Assist with special projects as assigned

  • Good communication skills, verbal and written

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong skills in English grammar, mechanics, and other characteristics of good writing
  • Ability to accurately apply the Chicago Manual of Style and other reference sources (can be learned on the job)
  • Acceptable performance on the BJU Press editorial test
  • Associate’s degree with 2+ YOE OR Bachelor's degree OR 1-2 YOE in a relevant discipline OR equivalent demonstrated aptitude
  • Excel, Word, OneDrive, Outlook, SharePoint, Teams, Windows, Adobe
