Job Description

The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) is a State of Florida regional agency responsible for the water resources of a large region, from Orlando in central Florida to the Keys. The agency performs cutting-edge scientific and engineering work, all of which relies on an extensive database of hydrologic, water quality, wetland vegetation, wildlife, and endangered species populations, as well as meteorological and other environmental data, which are served in outward-facing databases such as DBHydro and in environmental reports, namely the South Florida Environmental Report (SFER). Our goal at the South Florida Water Management District (District) is to improve Florida as a place to live and work.

SFWMD is looking for an Environmental Data Analyst 4 who wants to leave a legacy by working on the world's most significant ecosystem restoration projects and keeping the hundreds of existing water control structures and pump stations running to protect 9 million people from flooding. You should apply to join the District team for a diverse work setting, great benefits, and the chance to help protect South Florida's important water supply and environment.

Join our dynamic team as an Environmental Data Analyst 4 within the Hydrology & Hydraulics Department. Your insights will be crucial in understanding and managing water resources effectively. The candidate will use analytical skills, including interpreting data, identifying trends, manipulating and communicating data, and performing advanced technical tasks to ensure the accuracy of the hydrologic and meteorological data in the database. These functions are necessary to provide an uninterrupted, high-quality source of legally mandated data and to support various Initiatives.

This position is in the Data Validation Unit 2 (DV2) of the Hydro Data Management (HDM) Section. This position supports the District's flood control mission and all District mandates requiring hydrologic data. The principal assignments associated with this position will be:

2. Perform graphical verification analysis with a detailed hands-on visual review of data values.
3. Participate in the regular hydrologic monitoring functions within the HDM Section by working with Engineers, Engineering Technicians, Programmers, and the SCADA Section to resolve any data anomalies resulting from the operation of the instrumentation and monitoring facilities, including surveying monuments for horizontal and vertical movement.
4. Participate in organizational improvement initiatives (i.e., Graphical Verification Analysis (GVA), Data Analysis System (DAS), etc.), assist in other data analysis applications testing, and train Environmental Data Analyst 2 or 1.
5. Support Hydrometric Services with Stream Gauging efforts, as necessary.

This position will be located at the West Palm Beach Headquarters.

May be filled as an Environmental Data Analyst 4,3,2, or 1.
