Job Description

OVERVIEW 

The Sous Chef represents Park Tavern on Washington Square with the highest levels of culinary skills, professionalism, sanitation, and food safety. The Sous Chef must interact with the Head Chef and other team members and management professionally and collaboratively.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
• Prepare and cook dishes according to recipes and standards, ensuring consistency and quality in every plate served.
• Collaborate with kitchen staff to maintain a clean and organized workspace, adhering to food safety guidelines and sanitation protocols.
• Assist in training new kitchen team members, providing support and guidance to ensure a smooth transition into their roles.
• Uphold a sense of hospitality and professionalism in all interactions with colleagues and guests, contributing to a positive dining experience.
• Follow opening and closing procedures diligently, including completing all necessary side work before and after service shifts.
• Prioritize cleanliness, punctuality, and reliability in daily tasks, reflecting the values of our establishment and the San Francisco community.
• Seek opportunities to enhance the guest experience through attention to detail and a commitment to exceptional service.
• Assist in the execution of private and semi-private events, supporting event planning and execution as needed.
• Maintain accurate records of kitchen activities, including inventory levels, production logs, and waste tracking.
• Work collaboratively with management to ensure efficient workflow, including adherence to schedules and coverage needs.
• Adhere to budget constraints and contribute to cost-saving initiatives without compromising on quality.
• Stay informed about menu offerings and updates, actively participating in menu tastings and feedback sessions.
• Communicate effectively with team members and management, sharing ideas and feedback to improve kitchen operations.
• Embrace opportunities for personal and professional growth, seeking out additional training or development opportunities as needed.
• Assist with other duties as assigned by kitchen management, contributing to the overall success of the team and the establishment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• At least one to two (1-2) years of kitchen management experience required.
• Event execution experience a plus.

• SF restaurant experience preferred, restaurant opening experience a plus.


HEALTH & SAFETY
• SF Food Handler’s Certification required.
• Adhere to the highest standards of food safety, food handling, sanitation, workplace safety, and hygiene requirements according to the San Francisco Department of Health standards to ensure the health and safety of team members and guests.
• Adhere to COVID-19 sanitation protocols issued by the Center for Disease Control.
• Adhere to time and temperature protocols.


WORK ENVIRONMENT
• Involves standing and walking the entire shift.
• Involves holding objects with hands.
• Involves reaching, bending, and stooping frequently.
• Involves lifting, moving, and carrying at least 50 pounds with frequency throughout
the shift.
