Overview

We are seeking a Junior Criminal Defense Attorney to join our Washington, D.C. office. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated attorney with one year or less of criminal defense experience to gain hands-on courtroom exposure and mentorship within a dynamic and supportive legal team. The ideal candidate is passionate about criminal defense, eager to learn, and committed to providing outstanding client service.

Responsibilities

• Assist in representing clients in criminal matters in D.C. Superior Court and local jurisdictions.
• Support senior attorneys with all stages of criminal cases, including client intake, discovery review, investigation, motions, plea negotiations, and trial preparation.
• Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, motions, and memoranda.
• Participate in hearings and trials under supervision.
• Communicate effectively with clients, keeping them informed and supported throughout their cases.
• Collaborate with attorneys, investigators, and paralegals to ensure high-quality representation.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
• Active member in good standing with the D.C. Bar (required).
• One year or less of criminal defense experience, including internships, clinics, or clerkships involving criminal law.
• Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple cases with attention to detail.
• Demonstrated commitment to zealous and ethical client advocacy.
