About the Role

Our client is seeking a Systems Engineer to support complex, mission-critical efforts within the U.S. Government. In this role, you’ll help define and document system requirements, support solution design, and facilitate the seamless integration of software, hardware, and operational capabilities. You’ll also act as a bridge between developers, stakeholders, and mission needs — driving success through technical excellence and collaboration.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Systems Engineer, you will:

  • Define, manage, and maintain system and derived requirements for production systems

  • Ensure all system components are aligned with the overall system architecture (e.g., DoDAF , SOA )

  • Contribute to system documentation such as:

    • System Engineering Plans

    • Initial Capabilities Documents

    • Requirements Specifications

    • Interface Control Documents

  • Work closely with developers, integrators, and stakeholders to translate mission needs into actionable designs

  • Support cross-disciplinary coordination during Configuration Control Board (CCB) meetings, design and program reviews

  • Participate in Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) to evaluate new capabilities and system enhancements

  • Develop documentation that facilitates communication between hardware and software engineering teams

Required Skills

  • Strong experience in systems requirements management

  • Experience writing and contributing to system-level documentation

  • Familiarity with Department of Defense system architecture frameworks (e.g., DoDAF )

  • Understanding of systems engineering principles across the development lifecycle

  • Experience coordinating technical actions across multi-discipline teams

Desired Skills

  • Understanding of circuit-switched and mobile telephony networks (e.g., GSM, CDMA, 5G)

  • Knowledge of voice and data signaling protocols

  • Application development experience for IPv4 and IPv6 networks

  • Familiarity with VOIP , VPNs, tunneling, and encryption technologies

  • Hands-on experience with digital forensics tools (e.g., Wireshark)

  • Deep knowledge of the OSI model and networking protocols across layers 2–7

  • Understanding of legacy protocols (e.g., SONET)

  • Experience with Atlassian tools such as JIRA and Confluence

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in systems engineering

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline
