Job Description

The Advanced Research Center (ARC) is a Missile Defense Agency (MDA) facility located in Cummings Research Park in Huntsville, AL. The ARC is a Test and Evaluation (RDT&E) facility designed and operated to support Missile Defense System (MDS) Hardware-in-the-Loop (HWIL) Ground Test (GT) and Flight Test (FT) activities.

DTechLogic is the prime contractor supporting the ARC, which is a joint venture between Davidson Technologies and nLogic that was started in 2018. The DTechLogic ARC Team consists of five contractor teammates in Huntsville, AL.

The DTechLogic Team is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented candidate to join our team as an Automation Engineer (Linux-Cybersecurity) Intern , focusing on Linux and Red Hat products.

In this role, you will work with an experienced team of engineers and analysts to gain hands-on experience with Linux, Red Hat Satellite, Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform (AAP), and Red Hat Identity Management (IdM). You work will directly contribute to strengthening our cybersecurity posture by automating security compliance and system management at scale.

Examples of activities:

• Develop, test, and implement Ansible playbooks with the Ansible Automation Platform (AAP).
• Perform Linux system administration, including content and patch management using Red Hat Satellite.
• Manage users, hosts, and security policies within Red Hat Identity Management (IdM).
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues across the Linux environment.
• Create clear work instructions and documentation for automation processes.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand their requirements and build effective solutions.

The internship period will align with the selected candidate's educational institution's summer semester period.

Job Requirements:

• Currently pursing a degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology or a related field
• Currently maintains or can quickly obtain a CompTIA Security+CE certification
• A foundational understanding of the Linux command line
• Basic knowledge of container management tools (Podman/Docker)
• Experience with GitLab and Git
• Familiarity with a scripting language (python or bash) or YAML is a plus

Daily/Weekly Tasks:

• Review the Ansible Automation Platform (AAP) jobs and dashboard to check the status of any scheduled jobs from the previous night. Investigate and document any failures.
• Work on low priority issues, examples could include adding a new user to IdM or troubleshooting playbook/system errors.
• Document processes. This could involve writing a step-by-step guide for running a new Ansible playbook or updating a work instruction for a Satellite task.
• Continue development on an assigned Ansible playbook. This involves writing YAML code, testing and committing changes to a Git repository.
• Assist in ensuring software packages, security patches, and errata from the Red Hat Content Delivery Network (CDN) are synced in Satellite and available for systems.

Summer Project(s):

• Automated system Compliance and Remediation
• Objective: Build an automated task that can push required system configurations to systems on a periodic interval to ensure systems are set to a determined baseline.
• Learning Outcomes:
  • Deep understanding of Linux Security principles
  • Advanced Ansible skills, including writing complex conditional logic
  • Experience with creating and managing repeatable, automated workflows in AAP

Security Clearance:

The ARC Internship Program requires possession or ability to obtain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance.
