JOB TITLE: Digital Fabrication Production Assistant DEPARTMENT: BFA Design/BFA Advertising REPORT TO: Studio Manager and Chair; BFA Design STATUS: Full-time HOURS: Monday through Friday, 12:00-9:00 PM. This job does not accommodate remote work.

POSITION OVERVIEW: BFA Design/BFA Advertising is seeking a production assistant for our new digital fabrication studio. This position requires a minimum of 3 years of experience working in a fast-paced print production environment requiring the use of both Macintosh and PC computer systems, and a high level of customer interface and service. The production assistant will be predominantly producing student's work. This person will be instrumental in keeping the environment running efficiently by providing daily operations, maintenance, and support for equipment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operate shop tools including 3D printers, 3D scanners, laser cutters, direct-to-surface UV printers, and vinyl printers/cutters.
  • Ensure all jobs are delivered on time, and expedite operations that delay or alter schedules to meet unforeseen conditions. Remain in contact with students and faculty when critical issues arise or work production schedules are jeopardized.
  • Maintain an inventory of supplies and parts needed for production.
  • Maintain lab equipment, implementing a daily and weekly maintenance schedule.
  • Maintain a safe environment by keeping workspaces clean.
  • Complete all required paperwork, print request forms, documents, etc. to keep job ticket information complete, accurate, and current.
  • Participate in training activities or other special assignments as requested.
  • Build collaborative relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Communicate to the studio manager daily.
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned by the studio manager.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • You must be able to work evenings.
  • Working in a fast-paced production environment using Adobe Creative Suite, and specifically Adobe Illustrator.
  • Knowledge of OSX and Windows Systems.
  • Knowledge of internal workings of a printing facility including pre-press work with graphic arts, operation of a RIP station, cutting, Mimaki plotters, measurements, and color systems.
  • Must be self-motivated, a self-starter, and eager to learn new techniques.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience working in a print environment.
  • A minimum of 3 years of Adobe Creative Suite experience.
  • An art school background is recommended.
  • Team player who can also work independently.
  • Have a strong customer service mindset.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working in an educational setting is a plus.
  • Excellent attention to detail and willingness to be creative.
  • Enjoy working closely with others.
  • Ability to manage multiple ongoing projects.
  • 3D printing is a plus.
