High in the tree tops, I walked along the rope bridge being at one with nature. Through the gaps in the trees I could hear the birds tweeting, see the greenery of the leaves against the bright blue sky and the tops of skyscrapers. I’m in KL Forest Eco Park in the Heart of Kuala Lumpur in 9.3 hectares of forest where the rope walkways stretch between the trees.
Some of the trees here are a few hundred years old and have survived war, logging and being surrounded by 1.7 million people. KL Forest Eco Park is a haven of original species that used to cover this area before the building of Kuala Lumpur.
Found at the base of the KL tower, the rope bridges connecting the platforms in the trees are a surprising find. And what is even more surprising is that it is free!
There are several different nature trails within the area as well as the rope walkway and it is the perfect opportunity to take a little break from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Tips for Visiting KL Forest Eco Park
1/ To get to the KL Forest Eco Park take the Rapid LRT till Dang Wangi LRT Station. From here take the overhead bridge across Jalan Ampang right in front of the station towards Monorail Bukit Nanas Station. In a short distance you will see the entrance to KL Forest Eco Park.
2/ No need for sturdy shoes. I walked in flipflops. The structure is well built.
3/ I wouldn’t head here if it is raining due to mosquitos, snakes and spiders. There are signs warning of this.
Oh this looks like a lot of fun. Love that you did this in flipflops. A travellers dream shoe! I didn’t know that snakes were an issue in KL. I assumed mozzies would be but not snakes. I love a good urban escape so next time I’m in KL I’ll be walking my worries away here.
I can’t remember when I last wore closed shoes 🙂 I love my flipflops!
I’ve actually just come back from KL a few weeks ago! And I never even knew this Eco Park was so close to the city! Wish I had read this before visiting, as it seems like a great fun day out whilst exploring the city! It’s great that they have that much nature and outdoor activities that close to the centre too! Will definitely be doing this next time I visit!
I was really surprised also that it was so close to the city. I thought it would have been a drive away when I read about it! You know for next time 🙂
I so wish I’d known about this before my KL layover!! I only had 2 days – spent the first at Batu Caves and the 2nd getting completely and unintentionally lost in all the malls, but this Eco Park looks like it’d be so much more enjoyable. Also, I very nearly took the LRT to Dang Wangi simply because I liked the name – now I’m thinking I definitely should have, maybe I would have found this. It’s fantastic when you find little patches of nature in the middle of built up cities.
Oh what a shame! I’ve just written a post about the Batu Caves. The rope Canopy was better 🙂
Oh wow thats so cool. I always love it when there is a bit of nature between the city buildings. Its such an interesting contrast and a great relief from city life!
I cannot tell you how gutted I am that I missed this when I was in KL… totally up my street, and free?! Like WHAT!?
Love the contract from the busy city, and beautiful viewpoint to see it all!! Great find, and such a helpful post to help more people actually find it!
What a shame that you missed it. I was really surprised that it was free too.
I remember roaming around KL like it was yesterday. I was getting lost all around the city, just walking and walking. Wish I had known about the little green spot you mentioned!! 🙂 finja
I remember going to a butterfly park in KL – I think it must have been a different eco park but there were other awesome species there too in a gorgeous rainforest setting. I love visiting parks like this especially in such busy, populated cities. Quite a nice change of pace and always very beautiful.
Yes it is a different park but a lovely one too.
How did I miss this while I was in KL? This eco park sounds like such a nice contrast to the urban landscape that surround it. It’s definitely a nice change of pace while in the city!
I nearly did s I thought it was outside the city and would be expensive. But it’s in the city and free 🙂
