After the tragic passing of Danielle in Goa, India recently, the place where I am now and that I love, I feel that it is important to talk about female safety for solo travel. Specifically, I want to shed light on the topic when travelling in India and in all places in the world. Danielle, just like myself and many other females in India, was just looking to travel the world, have experiences she would not have at home and to learn about new cultures.

I had never met a bed bug until one afternoon in Kuala Lumpur. In the past eight years of extensive travels, I had heard many a tale about the terror of bed bugs. How they had ruined whole trips! And more seriously how difficult it is to get rid of bed bugs.
For those who haven’t really heard about bed bugs but don’t fancy a bug in the bed, they are more than just a harmless bug. They are the back packers nemesis.

Whilst standing inside a cave, the smell of incense lingers from the Hindu temple to my right. A troop of monkeys linger on the cave wall to my left and the sun seeps into the cave from the hole in the roof. I’m just 13kms from the heart of Kuala Lumpur in the Batu Caves. Inside the Batu Cave is one of the most famous Hindu shrines outside of India.

High in the tree tops, I walked along the rope bridge being at one with nature. Through the gaps in the trees I could hear the birds tweeting, see the greenery of the leaves against the bright blue sky and the tops of skyscrapers. I’m in KL Forest Eco Park in the Heart of Kuala Lumpur in 9.3 hectares of forest where the rope walkways stretch between the trees.

Thailand is a bit like Marmite, either you love it or you hate it. I am the latter.
Now perhaps that is a little harsh. It’s not that I hate Thailand, I just feel that there are better places to go in Asia such as South Korea, Philippines and Burma. There are similarly stunning places in the world without the tourist traps of Thailand.
