As I walked along the well worn trail through the valley, my eyes couldn’t help but look around in amazement at all the doorways cut into the rock. Abandoned homes and chapels that once was full of life. I’m hiking the Red and Rose Valley in Cappadocia.
I love exploring new places, climbing into empty spaces, not knowing what amazing things you will find inside. This hike is perfect for this. Exploring the caves and discovering amazing views out over the valley from small windows carved into the rock. Each home is a reminder of this ancient and mysterious time.

There are certain things which I really must take on my backpacking trip yet the rest of the time they stay in a box unused . . . Unloved. However, I would feel lost without them whilst backpacking. I have therefore compiled a list of essential items every backpacker needs to help those who have still not mastered the art of packing.

For a long time I have been a budget backpacker, but I am now learning that this does not necessarily mean finding the budget accommodation and going with that. There is a lot more to consider; your health, your sanity, your belongings and your comfort.
I have stayed in a lot of different types of accommodation, from the amazing to the worst than you can ever imagine. Therefore, I feel that I am well qualified to be writing this post about why the cheapest is not always the best when you are on a budget.
